Day 1 Ramadhan - Stay at Home
"No one can go back and change a bad beginning, but
anyone can start now and create a successful ending"
Self-Study Today: Giving Constructive Feedback
Everyday we have to engage with people. At times, we are bound to criticize them. Instead of talking behind their backs, it is best to confront it the right way. That's where the art of giving constructive feedback comes in. Be mindful that the objective is to build things up, not break things down.
The 6 steps to give a constructive feedback as written in a random article that I've read online;
"We don't say thank you enough. We get easily caught up in tasks, deadlines and responsibilities. Sometimes we barely take the time to breathe, much less take a step back to acknowledge a kind gesture, or someone who went out on a limb. Offering up a thank you, especially a written one, not only brightens their day, it also has the power to kindle future acts of kindness. It doesn't consume your time and the effect is far more enduring than you will ever know."
The 6 steps to give a constructive feedback as written in a random article that I've read online;
Step 1:
State the constructive purpose of your feedback, e.g.
"I have some thoughts about..."
"I feel I need to let you know..."
Step 2:
Describe specifically what you've observed, e.g.
"Yesterday afternoon you were speaking with ......., I noticed that you kept raising your voice."
Step 3:
Describe your reactions, e.g.
"The staff member looked embarrassed and I felt uncomfortable about seeing this episode."
Step 4:
Give the other person the opportunity to respond, e.g.
"Tell me, what are your thoughts?"
Step 5:
Offer specific suggestions
Step 6:
Summarize and express your support, e.g.
"At least now we know........"
Certainly our daily conversations are informal, but we may improvise these steps and make use of it.
